Exemode’s HD camera recorder!

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

Over the last few weeks we’ve been making fun of Exemode’s products due to their poor overall quality, the affordable price being their major highlight… today they come up with the DV580HD, a camera recorder.

Here is the Exemode DV580HD, a 720p, h264 camcorder; it features 32MB of built-in memory, compatibility with SD and SDHC cards, and a ridiculous price of 155 Euros. You’ve been warned!

World’s Ugliest Car Gets Unsurprisingly High Gas Mileage

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Transport with No Comments »

cars of the future are meant to be fierce. Sure, they may get the equivalent of 100mpg through electric efficiency, but they’d better look like they can decapitate onlookers during the morning commute.

This new solar vehicle (that’s still missing a sexy name) may be by the makers of champion solar race cars, but it looks like a jerky golf cart. Then again, any car capable of 44mph speeds for three hours at a time-that runs on nothing but the sun-has our ears perked.

Designed for the streets of Taiwan, the car uses a airplane-grade Nomex honeycomb body that makes it just 550lbs with seats. The light weight brings efficiency, so much so, in fact, that the developers claim that the car just needs a few hours of sunlight to recharge its batteries for another 3 hours of driving. But we’ll admit it-with a solar panel that tiny on top of the car, we can’t help but be a little skeptical about that figure.

Then again, for its groundbreakingly low $24,600 price tag, we’ll be willing to give it a chance over this more expensive, equally hideous alternative.

Newertech’s iPhone Speaker Dock Lets You Rock, Talk

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Apple, Cell-phones with No Comments »

Newertech’s iPhone Speaker Dock allows you to rock out in between calls, and will further function as a loudspeaker when a call is received or made. The flexible microphone means you will be able to comfortably speak at a distance, with limited loss in calling quality.

As if that was not enough, the iPhone Speaker Dock will also charge your iPhone whilst it pumps out your tunes. At $34.99, it doesn’t matter if it’s black or white; it’s a steal whatever the color. As well as the dock, Newertech shall be introducing other iPhone specific peripherals.

A headphone jack extender ($7.99), a microphone extender cable ($14.99), an auto charger ($12.99), and a handsfree headset ($19.99.) The handsfree headset is a welcome addition, as the options for suitable alternatives are somewhat limited at present.

LaCie’s LaCinema Premier external HDD surfaces

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Storage-Devices with No Comments »

Apparently, this one’s been on a few store shelves already, but LaCie didn’t even bother trumpeting its release to the world. Fret not, as the LaCinema Premier can hide no longer.

This USB 2.0 “multimedia hard drive” arrives in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB flavors, packs 7,200RPM hard drives within and outputs via composite / S-Video / component (rear shown after the break). Furthermore, it supports 1080i upscaling and provides S/PDIF optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, and just in case you’re curious, it’ll handle MPEG1/2/4, ISO, IFO, VOB, MP3, WMA, AC3, OGG, JPEG, BMP, TIF and PNG file formats. Yeah, it also touts that played out “one-touch backup” feature, but we know it’s the bundled remote that really turns you on. Apparently, the trio starts at around £149.99 ($299) and tops out at £324.99 ($648) for the 1TB edition.

Norcent cranks out 10-megapixel DCS-1050 camera

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

Norcent’s done 10-megapixels on the cheap before, but apparently, one just isn’t enough. Announced today, the DCS-1050 (part of the firm’s new 50 Series) will be showcased at CES and will boast a 10-megapixel sensor, a 3-inch “scratch-resistant” LCD monitor

, face-detection / anti-shake capabilities, a 3x optical zoom (along with 4x of the practically worthless digital kind), red-eye reduction and 22 scene modes. Additionally, the unit even includes voice recording functionality, 16MB of internal memory, an SD / MMC expansion slot, USB / AV ports, and an MPEG-4 video capture mode that supports resolutions up to 640 x 480. Unfortunately, Norcent is trying to keep a straight face while slapping a $179.99 price tag on this thing, which just seems a touch absurd for the features, no?

Garmin’s new Forerunner 405 puts the ‘watch’ back in ‘GPS watch’

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | GPS with No Comments »

Starting with the Forerunner 305, Garmin finally started producing GPS-enabled watches that didn’t make you look like a total goof while tracking your pace and vitals, but these still weren’t timepieces you’d be comfortable wearing to the office or even a bar.

Then came the Forerunner 50, which had the perfect watch-like form factor, but unfortunately, no GPS. So fans of this line will be pleased to learn that Garmin has somehow been able to shoehorn a satellite receiver into a casing not much bigger than the 50’s and dubbed it the Forerunner 405. Besides monitoring and logging speed, distance, heart rate and location, the 405 also features a touch-sensitive bezel for controlling its various functions, as well as the same proprietary ANT+Sport wireless syncing technology as the GPS-less 50. Available in either black (pictured above) or green (pictured after the break, .
