Matthias Hiller must have had a few knocks and bruises in his life to have come up with such a neat and useful product. “Jumi” is a silicone handle made for cabinet handles or drawer pulls. Designed with two things in mind - safety and organization. |
With the soft silicone handle, Jumi allows for no more bumps and the pictogram allows for the user to see what is behind the closed door or drawer. No more endless hours of searching for something you need immediately. With a cool name and practical use, I think I might want a few Jumi’s in my home.

The Flower Council of Holland has commissioned Arne Quinze, Fredrikson Stallard, Karim Rashid, Studio Job and Arik Levy (all famous names in the design industry) to design 5 New Fiat 500’s. The catch is that they had to design them using flower so as to raise the awareness of the uses of cut flowers. |
It sounds kind of odd, but the results of the finished, flowery, Fiat’s are quite mesmerizing. Not too sure they would be safe driving around town with the flower petals flying in your face. Neat concept and pretty unique use for flowers.

OK, wait a minute. Rims on a table? Well, if you are Beth Fuller, then yes! Fuller has taken objects from the streets of New York Cities’ junkyards, and created beautiful recycled objects. All materials used in the creation of the “Junkture Table” are sustainable. They are found locally, and are either 99%-100% recycled. With the imagination of Beth Fuller, “Beautiful things CAN be made from junk”. |

I am no Italian Chef, and so I have always struggled with getting just the right amount of pasta cooked for the guests sitting at my table. Thanks to German Design studio, ding3000, the answer to my noodle problems has been solved. Noooodle is a device designed for measuring spaghetti portions. |
Noooodle allows you to measure off just the right amount of spaghetti from one to up to four people. The design can also be used to place hot cooking pots on so as not to burn your counter space when laid upon it. Konstantin Slawinski are responsible for manufacturing Noooodle.

Silent Energy is an interactive exhibition concept that helps us become aware of energy usage. The amount of energy we use has a direct effect on overall consumption. |
We usually think of energy as invisible so if that veil were lifted, and every moment clearly visualized, we’d might think twice about leaving lights on, turning off appliances, etc. This energy awareness is an important tool for all of us to learn if we’re to practice the first part of this mantra; reduce, recycle, reuse.

Inspired by Korean smoke alarm towers called Bongsudae, this trash bin retains the graceful organic shape of the former. |
The pattern even has an Asian aesthetic without being too traditional. My only gripe is the narrowing of the top. Makes it easy for things to come in, but a chore to get out.

Belsize Architects have designed another spectacular home, No. 13, which is a small, contemporary mews house in London’s historical Regents Park. The architects looked at the project as a way of showing how a modern building could be designed on a small site in a historic part of London, and give a feeling of being much larger than it is while creating a sense of privacy. |
The housing structure was created to bring in as much light as possible. This was accomplished by adding large windows in the brick walls and roof lights placed throughout the house. The shutters for the windows are made from vertical slats of wood which allows lighting in, yet continues to contain privacy inside the home. The open floor plan inside is free flowing, only divided by glass walls throughout the three levels of the home. The materials used inside the home are volcanic stone, textured leather and lacquered timber which are all similar in color, they act together to created a open, and roomy atmosphere.

Inspired by the 1950s “jet set” lifestyle of the rich and famed socialites, this ‘green’ chic solid state illumination coupled with sensual flamboyant mirror finish aims to reawaken the sense of interactive live-work-play realism within self and the surroundings. |
Having a dual purpose nature of a wall lamp and up-lighter, its usage is functional and adaptable. Transforming from front illuminating wall lamp to a beaming up-lighter is as simple as sliding the lever switch. This interactive lever switch mimics a window blind shade notion. Moving up or down the sliding lever simulates the amount of light gleaming into the ‘cabin’ whereas light that are ‘blocked’ are forced up shimmering the top. These illumination effects are possible by using strips of solid-state illumination technology (LEDs) as the windowpane. The position of lever switch determines the area or illumination. Arraying numerous ‘Jet-Setter lite’ will transform any living space to the richness of aircraft cabin-like interior. This scalability is not only desirable but also strengthens the notion of aircraft cabin within interior dwelling. Its sensual styling is also a strong statement.

The stereotypical hi-tech watch is a very masculine item but the “i/o” concept emphasizes the watch as a fashion accessory for women. It’s designed like a cuff bracelet with a hidden digital clock. |
Its body features a glossy mirror surface finish that only allows light through from underneath. When not in use it shows just a dot. After touching the dot, the time magically appears! Oooooo!
