It’s hard to imagine that there could still be people out there who believe hard-drives will have as much space on them as manufacturers’ spec-sheets boast, but that very issue looks to have turned around and bit Creative on the behind. |

A class-action suit was filed against the company regarding the quoted capacity of their hard-drive based media players, and it could result in a huge settlement for anybody who bought such a device between May 5th 2001 and April 30th 2008. Of course, Creative themselves aren’t admitting culpability, but seem to be making the gesture as more of a goodwill attempt than because they secretly feel guilty and have been unable to sleep at night.

TomTom have refreshed their ONE and XL satnav ranges, adding Google Maps compatibility, reworking the audio system for clearer voice prompts, and redesigning the windscreen mount. |

Both models now support TomTom’s Map Share system, which allows users to collectively update and polish mapping data in-between official releases, a guarantee that the maps provided will be the latest version, and pre-installed traffic camera information. A new Help Me! menu gives shortcut access to emergency and breakdown service contact details, car maintenance advice, directions to the nearest hospital and first aid instructions.

Intel are having trouble meeting demand for their ultra-efficient Atom mobile processor, according to a report in the WSJ. |

While the company claims to be on-track to produce millions of the chips before the end of the year, demand has exceeded expectations. The Atom is currently being used in the ASUS Eee ultraportable, among others.

Archos have released new firmware for their 605 (both HDD and Flash versions), 705, 405 2Go and 405 30 Go PMPs, as well as the Archos TV+ set-top box. |

Version 2.0.10 supports Flash 9 video, WMV9 (possibly including DRM-encrypted web streams), WebTV and radio (with an optional plugin), GPS (with the recently-announced navigation accessory) and an alarm clock.

For some reason, this Micro Orb spy camera makes me think of Columbo-star Peter Falk. Perhaps if the TV detective had been fitted with a 1.5-inch sphere capturing 30fps MPEG-4 video (with sound), gathering evidence might’ve been even easier. |
