iPod touch and iPod nano owners will be able to enjoy new offerings from Griffin Technology, with the former getting a FlexGrip case while the latter is blessed with the FlexScreen case. |
The FlexGrip features a two-tone silicone case with a smooth front as well as a textured, nubby rear surface which provides additional grip, making it perfect for those suffering from sweaty palms. Other features include a full-face screen protector (for the touch) and Click Wheel protectors (for the nano). As for the two-piece FlexScreen, you get a clear silicone case featuring the same textured back as the FlexGrip and a clear hard polycarbonate face shield. You won’t find all the relevant jacks blocked by either product, as Griffin are old hands at iPod accessories. Both will retail for $15 a piece.

RIM apparently has a product in the making known as AK - which obviously enough, stands for “Apple Killer”. It will, of course be a touch screen device and RIM co-CEO Mike Lazaridis let fire his salvo, “I couldn’t type on [the iPhone] and I still can’t type on it, and a lot of my friends can’t type on it. |
It’s hard to type on a piece of glass.” It would be interesting to see what kind of BlackBerry that will end up as. I know the consumers are just going to so love such competition. |

While most iPhone users are happy with their (personal) email setup, wouldn’t it be nice to have a native mobile iChat? Sure, Apple demonstrated an AIM client with their SDK but this patented IM client has a predictive text that proposes several choices as you type, potentially shortening the number of strokes needed to type a phrase. |
The good news is that it is “choices” - not an auto-replace. This means that the phone is not trying to be smarter that you are, it just tries to help.

The Italy iPhone launch might signal a change in policy at Apple. As of now, Apple chose one carrier per country to which it gave exclusive rights to commercialize the iPhone. |
The idea is that carriers enter a bidding process during which they bid more royalties to Apple to get the coveted contract. Of course, there are many variables like the customer base and so on. So far AT&T has been fairly happy with the deal. The Italian “La Repubblica” believes that this will come to an end soon and that Apple will switch to a more open model that involves several (or all) carriers. We can only speculate on this and our opinion is that the exclusivity tactic is a powerful demonstration for all carriers: they can make more money, even after sharing the subscription fees with Apple. However, this tactic has the drawback of locking out legions of customers trapped in their current contracts. By becoming less exclusive, Apple will likely increase their total available market - which they need to continue to grow quickly. |

Check out this Mosquito Ruby Pod Rare iPod case that protects your precious from nicks and scratches, eliciting the Pavlovian response of drool whenever a hungry person (or dog, for that matter) looks at it. The beef is fake, but it sure as heck looks real enough to imagine that it even stinks. Would you fork out $68 for something like this? |

The iPhone Pwnage Tool is back with a vengeance, and this time it is available on the Windows platform. Being in beta, you can naturally expect several features to be disabled. |
Are you man enough to give this a go and risk bricking your precious iPhone? Well, it isn’t too bad these days considering the massive price drops since its release last year, and with the long rumored 3G version basically waiting to be released, that isn’t too big a risk to take after all.

Apple has filed a patent for a laser-based head mounted display (HMD) unit that is small enough to be clipped on the user’s belt. |
An optical cable is used to transmit laser-generated video to the headset, and thanks to the implementation of extremely thin wedge optics, an image will be displayed right smack in front of the user’s eyes. The entire optical display element can be no thicker than 2mm, while the entire HMD could potentially be no bigger than a pair of standard horn-rimmed glasses. When not in use, they will be made fully transparent. I’m already drooling at the possibility of watching video anytime, anywhere comfortably with this instead of holding an iPod throughout a long haul flight.

Apple is reportedly launching the iPhone in India with Vodafone in September. India is extremely important because of the population’s size, but also because the growth is still very high. As of last month, the country was adding 8 million subscribers per month and it was expected to surpass the U.S by now… |
At an expected price of Rs 28,000 it would be more than six-times the average phone selling price, but there is without doubt a large audience that could afford it. The 8GB iPhone should land first, followed by higher capacity versions.
