Micro Orb spy camera: clip-capturing eyeball alternative

Thursday, May 1st, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

For some reason, this Micro Orb spy camera makes me think of Columbo-star Peter Falk. Perhaps if the TV detective had been fitted with a 1.5-inch sphere capturing 30fps MPEG-4 video (with sound), gathering evidence might’ve been even easier.

On sale in mid-May, the video camera has a three hour rechargeable battery and can record up to six hours of footage onto a 2GB microSD card.

AC Adapter Holds Spy Camera

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

I’m pretty unnerved that spy cameras come in all forms of shapes and sizes these days, and this fake AC adapter doesn’t really help the situation either.

It powers the built-in spy camera whenever the AC adapter is plugged into an outlet, while a lithium ion battery within records up to 3 hours of audio and video sans external power source. Data is stored on a microSD memory card (2GB max. which holds approximately 66 hours of footage) at 176 x 144 resolution in 3GP format, so you can forget about selling your voyeuristic tendencies due to such low resolution video.

Ricoh G600 Rugged Camera

Thursday, April 24th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

The Ricoh G600 has been designed to survive the small dangers that digital cameras can endure in the outdoors. Digital cameras are great in general, but they can be quite fragile while used in the “wild”.

Rain & dust or worse a drop on the ground or in the water! (!) could happen out there and there goes your camera on day 2 of your nature trip. The Ricoh G600 can survive a drop, even in shallow waters, can shoot small bugs with its macro function or be used in low-light (ISO 3200) because you don’t want to scare animals with your flash. Specifications in the full post.

Casio Exilim EX-Z80 features Heartbreaks

Friday, April 18th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

Now is this a cute digital camera or what - the Casio Exilim EX-Z80’s interface is rather comical when you think about it, providing some relief for folks who are just too serious in their life.

Heck, it will literally display a heartbroken image should it fail to focus on your subject, but you can also choose other images such as stars, flowers and even babies to break whenever you snap a blurry one. Stars and flowers are fine, but babies?!? Hopefully this firmware will be able to find its way outside of Japan - keep your fingers crossed, folks!

Altek GPS-enabled Digital Camera

Friday, April 18th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

Fancy this - Altek has released a GPS-enabled digital camera that geotags photos for you automatically, allowing you to cross-reference this metadata with other mapping tools such as Google Maps, Google Earth, or Flickr’s geotag-enabled galleries when you get home.

Perfect for those who can’t seem to remember where they have gone during the last vacation - I suppose this is more useful if one visits a natural forest reserve where signboards aren’t exactly commonplace. Features of this GPS-enabled camera include an 8-megapixel resolution and a 3″ touch screen display. No idea on when it will be released though.

24.4 Megapixel Replacement for the D3?

Friday, April 18th, 2008 | Cameras with No Comments »

DP Review forums are abuzz of a new Nikon firmware update for its flagship camera, the D3. Inside the code, a forum member found references to a future D3-X model that has 24.4 megapixel for you to play with, which is more than double of what the current one offers at 12.1 megapixels.

The v1.10 code had bits of code that features the string “D3X”, and I presume all D3 owners are keeping their fingers crossed that a software hack will be able to see an increase in megapixel count. Nikon is silent on this issue when approached to give a comment, and somehow I am not surprised. Ah well, I guess we will have to wait until the real deal is released.
