Single-Seat Performance Water Cycle

Monday, April 28th, 2008 | Design, Other with No Comments »

This water cycle is based on a very unusual design in which you actually sit on it like you would on a conventional bicycle and then start pedalling the kayak-like craft. Pedal power will propel this craft to a top speed of just 7mph but speed is not the primary reason why this craft has been built.

Instead, it is built for you to amble across the lake on a boring Sunday afternoon or even workout every day on it. To stop, you need to pedal, but this time backwards. To turn around or change direction, you just need to turn the handle-bars which is connected to the rudder beneath the craft, just like in a conventional bicycle . The Performance Water cycle goes for a tad under three grand, $2999.95 to be very precise. [Hammacher]

Sweet Gadgets to NOT die for…

Monday, April 28th, 2008 | Design with No Comments »

Diabetics have it pretty rough. Aside from the constant life threatening condition, seriously restricted diets and painful monitoring of glucose levels in their blood, diabetics often have to suffer the indignity of carrying around some seriously ugly industrial design.

Taking monitoring and treatment systems into his own hands, designer Sascha Morawetz has created this pair of Diabetic tools that should alleviate some of the pain and shame usually associated with this illness. The inhaler, dubbed “Ninos AS”, generates an insulin aerosol, replacing the common insulin pen. A special thread allows an exact adjustment of the insulin dose. Incorporating a bloodless glucose measurement system, the “Ninos GL” can also be used as a diary, useful for collecting statistics for optimizing therapy. Though the Ninos GL looks remarkably like a Sony-Ericsson mobile phone, next time your date offends you by “texting” at the dinner table, he or she just might be saving a life…their own.

Gaming with Style

Often overlooked by product designers, casual non-digital bar games like darts, billiards and foosball, have always been good for intellect avoidance, drunken challenges and ice breaking awkward dates.

Sadly, most of these games have seriously lacked aesthetic presence and look like they were designed by retired auto salesmen living in log cabins. “11 - the beautiful game” by GRO Design changes all the rules and tackled the most action packed pub player. Mimicking the grandeur of actual football stadiums around the globe, this polished and slick design takes the game of gaming to a whole new level.

Uber Hi-tech And Just For Women

The stereotypical hi-tech watch is a very masculine item but the “i/o” concept emphasizes the watch as a fashion accessory for women. It’s designed like a cuff bracelet with a hidden digital clock.

Its body features a glossy mirror surface finish that only allows light through from underneath. When not in use it shows just a dot. After touching the dot, the time magically appears! Oooooo!

Jet-Setter Lite by Charles Cha

Thursday, April 17th, 2008 | Design with No Comments »

Inspired by the 1950s “jet set” lifestyle of the rich and famed socialites, this ‘green’ chic solid state illumination coupled with sensual flamboyant mirror finish aims to reawaken the sense of interactive live-work-play realism within self and the surroundings.

Having a dual purpose nature of a wall lamp and up-lighter, its usage is functional and adaptable. Transforming from front illuminating wall lamp to a beaming up-lighter is as simple as sliding the lever switch. This interactive lever switch mimics a window blind shade notion. Moving up or down the sliding lever simulates the amount of light gleaming into the ‘cabin’ whereas light that are ‘blocked’ are forced up shimmering the top.

These illumination effects are possible by using strips of solid-state illumination technology (LEDs) as the windowpane. The position of lever switch determines the area or illumination. Arraying numerous ‘Jet-Setter lite’ will transform any living space to the richness of aircraft cabin-like interior. This scalability is not only desirable but also strengthens the notion of aircraft cabin within interior dwelling. Its sensual styling is also a strong statement.
