Super Talent Project X high-performance 4GB DDR3-1800 RAM kit

Friday, April 25th, 2008 | Storage-Devices with No Comments »

Super Talent Technology are already known on these pages for their high-performance solid state drives, but the memory company also specialises in speciality RAM under their Project X banner. Intended for gamers and other users who demand excessive performance from their systems, Super Talent are claiming their new Project X DDR3-1800 4GB kit is the first on the market offering that much memory running at that fast a speed. Rivals, apparently, have only managed DDR3-1600.

The company manufacturers their own chips, as well as the toothy aluminium head spreaders you can see in the photos. These boast double the surface area and 106-percent more aluminium mass than standard heat spreaders, and are joined with Super Talent’s own thermal adhesive. The result is “aggressive latencies” and a lifetime warranty.

Ajoka Video Recording Belt

Friday, March 14th, 2008 | Storage-Devices with No Comments »

Ajoka has rolled out what looks like a standard belt buckle, but it can actually record 3GP videos in 176 x 144 resolution. Now that’s pathetic, since it isn’t even good enough to put on YouTube, but that’s the standard resolution when it comes to playing videos on cell phones anyway.

It will store all video on a 2GB microSD memory card which can hold the equivalent of 65 hours of video. A single battery charge limits its recording time to 3 hours - more than enough for you to capture damning evidence of an office tryst. Best of all is, this belt buckle spy camera cannot be picked up by a wireless camera detector so you can go about with your clandestine recordings without fear.

Mtron announces a 1.8-inch 128GB SSD

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008 | Storage-Devices with No Comments »

We’ve already seen a couple 2.5-inch SSDs hit 128GB, but Mtron, our new favorite crazy storage vendor, has just announced plans a 1.8-inch 128GB SSD. That’s the same size as the drives in the MacBook Air, Latitude XT, and Lenovo X300 — and since drive height isn’t as closely related to storage capacity for SSDs, look for 1.8-inch SSDs to become the new standard in most new laptops as capacities increase and prices fall.

Of course, “prices fall” is the operative phrase here — Mtron’s 1.8-inch 128GB disk will probably set you back some $1600 when it ships in April. Yeah, we’ll stick with the platters for now.

LaCie’s LaCinema Premier external HDD surfaces

Friday, January 4th, 2008 | Storage-Devices with No Comments »

Apparently, this one’s been on a few store shelves already, but LaCie didn’t even bother trumpeting its release to the world. Fret not, as the LaCinema Premier can hide no longer.

This USB 2.0 “multimedia hard drive” arrives in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB flavors, packs 7,200RPM hard drives within and outputs via composite / S-Video / component (rear shown after the break). Furthermore, it supports 1080i upscaling and provides S/PDIF optical and coaxial digital audio outputs, and just in case you’re curious, it’ll handle MPEG1/2/4, ISO, IFO, VOB, MP3, WMA, AC3, OGG, JPEG, BMP, TIF and PNG file formats. Yeah, it also touts that played out “one-touch backup” feature, but we know it’s the bundled remote that really turns you on. Apparently, the trio starts at around £149.99 ($299) and tops out at £324.99 ($648) for the 1TB edition.
