After yesterday’s TV ideal for your kitchen, today we continue our quest to put LCD screens around your home with a water-resistant set for the bathroom. Unlike that Westinghouse HDTV, though, the PROVIEW PA-15BA7 is standard definition. |
With a 15-inch screen, 450:1 contrast ratio and 120 degree x 100 degree viewing angle, it’s not setting out to blow away your home cinema setup, but thanks to a waterproof remote and slash-resistant casing it’s a lot happier mounted above the bath.

The Samsung PAVV Bordeaux 750 LCD TV looks great, is a mere 44mm thick and is full HD. Giving this black beauty an edge is its 1GB of onboard flash memory which is preloaded with games, library, browser etc, no wonder Samsung calls it the ‘Content TV’. |
The onboard library has an exercise program to burn fat, a cooking program so you gain fat and it also teaches kids nursery rhymes. The TV can be connected via Ethernet or a USB adapter to brwose the latest news, stock information from Korea’s leading site Naver and also view videos from YouTube. The TV supports Power Wiselink using which you can connect a USB drive and play music and video files directly. Sadly the TV does not have an onboard Hard Drive for recording programs, it would surely make it perfect. A Korea only product the TV is available in three sizes 40′ 270,000 KRW ($ 2700), 46′ 350,000 KRW ($ 3500) and 52 inches 480,000 KRW ($ 4800).

Samsung and Armani have taken their partnership to another level, having not being content with just a joint venture that resulted in a cell phone. |
This time round, we have a 120Hz full HD LCD TV that was unveiled at the recent I Saloni 2008 in Italy, boasting a handmade wood frame. As with anything handmade, you can rest assure that the price will be pretty high up there where zeros are concerned. Looks pretty ordinary to me though.

Plasma TVs might beat out on LCDs when it comes to image quality, but next-gen LCD TVs ought to do much better as they bring brighter colors and a virtually infinite contrast ratio to the table, thanks to the efforts of Dolby and Sim2. |
Their new prototype LCD TV features a high dynamic range which utilizes a backlight unit from Sim2 comprising of 1,838 LEDs, capable of maintaining 1080p resolution in a 16:9 aspect ratio. The prototype has been rated at 4,000 cd/m2 in terms of brightness, and has a uniform luminance of 95% throughout the display. According to Dolby, this TV is able to deliver a “picture quality that matches real-world visual perception of depth, detail, and color.” No word on pricing or availability, but it won’t be cheap - I can guarantee you that.
