Microsoft drop SPOT watch project

Friday, April 25th, 2008 | Watches with No Comments »

Microsoft are quietly pulling the plug on their SPOT watch project, which aimed to bring real-time weather and schedule updates to the wrists of the populous.

According to Microsoft’s Jon Canan, the technology will no longer be built into any new watches, and the most recent examples have sold out. However, the MSN Direct service itself will continue, meaning anybody still wanting to use their SPOT watch will be able to for the foreseeable future.

DIY Scientific Calculator Watch

Thursday, April 17th, 2008 | Watches with No Comments »

They say that necessity is the mother of all invention, and the same holds true for David Jones when his faithful Casio CFX-400 scientific calculator watch broke after 10 years of day-to-day use. David decided to look for a replacement but to no avail, so he decided to cook one up for himself.

He managed to cobble one after getting a 53mm x 20mm compact 2-line LCD display and other off-the-shelf components. This prototype you see here is rather rough, but hopefully in due time he’ll manage to smoothen out the edges for a more palatable look.

Crystal Watch

Sunday, March 30th, 2008 | Watches with No Comments »

Inspired by Swarovski’s expertise in crystal and Signity’s brilliance in gems, the Luna Watch is made of crystal, stainless steel and a Spessartite Garnet. To tell time just touch the two contact points and time seems to magically float inside the crystal.

Simplistic in its function yet aesthetically complex therefore this is a fashion watch. You can expect to see it in a range of colors with coordinated Signity gems.

TokyoFlash Tibida not for the faint of heart, but for those 10 types of people

Friday, January 25th, 2008 | Watches with No Comments »

Please excuse my cheesy little binary joke, but this watch will work with both types of people, those that can read binary and those that can’t as the 42-LED array is arranged in such a way that you can choose to tell time in binary or other methods. Those other methods include hour centric or minute centric, basically the watch will print out the number of the minute or the hour kind of like your old high school’s score board.
